In a game that went back and forth in the decisive fourth quarter, the Trail Blazers emerged victorious, thanks to a clutch three-pointer from Damian Lillard.

I was blown away by the Trail Blazers' ability to outlast the Lakers in this thrilling matchup. The final score was a close 136-129 victory for the Blazers, and it's clear that they were the superior team from start to finish.

“We needed him to be able to get through a full practice,” — Redick

Trail Blazers Outlast Lakers in Thrilling Fourth Quarter Showdown

  • Luka Doncic led the charge with 41 points, nine assists, and five rebounds.
  • Austin Reaves added 26 points, seven assists, and four rebounds.

But it was Damian Lillard who stole the show with a clutch three-pointer off a pass from Deni Avdija for a six-point lead with 42.8 seconds left that the Lakers couldn’t overcome.

The Trail Blazers' New Backcourt

Lillard, who sat out last season with a torn left Achilles tendon injury, and Ja Morant, who played for the Memphis Grizzlies last season before being traded to the Trail Blazers, formed essentially a new backcourt for Portland. The two teams went at it in the first half, with the Lakers taking a 73-68 lead at intermission after a three-pointer at the buzzer by Sandro Mamukelashvili.

The Lakers' Struggles

  • The Lakers dropped their first game of the season, falling to 3-1 after getting outscored 34-26 in the fourth quarter.

Doncic and Reaves are the top scoring backcourt in the league, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Trail Blazers' strong performance. The Lakers rookie guard Cameron Carr practiced with the Coachella Valley Lakers on Tuesday and showed progress while at practice with their G-League team.

The Chemistry Between Lillard and Morant

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how well Damian Lillard and Ja Morant meshed on the court. They formed an unstoppable duo, with Lillard hitting 21 points and Morant chipping in 23. It's clear that their chemistry is a major factor in the Trail Blazers' success.

What I find interesting is that both players have had to adapt to new teams this season. Lillard sat out last year due to injury, while Morant was traded from Memphis to Portland. Yet they've managed to pick up right where they left off, and their partnership is paying dividends for the Blazers.

It's also worth noting that Doncic and Reaves are still a dominant force in the league, but even they couldn't overcome the Trail Blazers' strong performance. This just goes to show how deep the talent pool is in the NBA this season.

The Impact on the Playoffs

With this win, the Trail Blazers move up in the standings and are now a serious contender for a playoff spot. But can they sustain their momentum and make a deep run in the playoffs? That's the question on everyone's mind right now.

I think it's safe to say that the Trail Blazers' victory is a major upset, but also a testament to their resilience and determination. They've shown time and again this season that they can come from behind and win games when it matters most.

By The Numbers

What Number
Luka Doncic's points 41
Austin Reaves' points 26
Jordan Morant and Deni Avdija's combined points 23
Points scored by the Trail Blazers in the fourth quarter 34
Seconds left when Damian Lillard hit a clutch three-pointer 42.8

That's the question on everyone's mind right now.

With this win, the Trail Blazers move up in the standings, but they'll need to keep their momentum going if they want to stay ahead. The question is, can they continue to outlast their opponents and make a deep run in the playoffs?
